Linuxový notebook navržený pro použití v rozvojovém světě míři do prodeje.

Kanadská firma WeWi Telecommunications Inc. oznámila zahájení prodeje notebooku SOL s o.s. Ubuntu, který "nikdy nemusí být v síti" , a to díky integrovaným panelům využívajících sluneční energii.  Přístroj je určen (nejen) pro použití v rozvojových zemích, které mají omezenou infrastrukturou.

Představení tohoto "chasníka" proběhlo 20. srpna v Ghaně a do konce měsíce bude k dispozici k prodeji vládním a vzdělávacím institucím. Sol se v současné době vyrábí v počtu 20.000 ks měsíčně s možností rozšíření kapacity.  Jeho design bitevní lodi nebude asi každému hned po chuti, ale důvod vzhledu ja jasný, využívání energií ze slunce je SOLova nevyšší prioritou, tak k čertu s marnivostí. Jeho cena 350 USD (7 000 Kč) je úměrná hardwarovému vybavení.

Že má ale výdrž
Jeho tvůrci tvrdí, že notebook může buď běžet přímo skrze napájení sluneční energií (pokud jsou solární panely rozložené), nebo po nabití vestavěných baterií, což zabare cca 2 hodiny. Napájení a tím i chod notebooku pouze na vnitřní baterie bez panelů je zhruba od 8 do 10 hodin. Uvnitř se nachází dvoujádrový procesor Intel Atom D2500 1,86 GHz, 2 GB paměti a disk o velikosti 320 GB. Úhlopříčka displeje je 13,3 palce a rozlišení 1366x768px s vybavením jako USB 2.0, Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi a kamera. Připojit se můžete také k 3G nebo 4G LTE. Součástí bude i GPS. Jako operační systém byl zvolen Linux, v tomto případě Ubuntu 12.10.
